Sheba Microsystems, a pioneering startup specializing in sensor actuation technology, has developed an innovative autofocus solution tailored for automotive cameras. This technology addresses a critical challenge in the automotive industry: optical deformation caused by extreme temperatures, which can compromise focus and degrade image quality. Why DXOMARK

Sheba Microsystems sought to demonstrate that their technology could ensure automotive cameras maintain superior image quality and focus stability across extreme temperature variations. Existing solutions on the market were hindered by thermal expansion, which led to compromised performance. Recognizing DXOMARK’s established expertise as an independent third-party tester, Sheba approached us for validation. What we did

Our methodology focused on thorough benchmarking to objectively assess the performance of Sheba Microsystems’s technology. We evaluated and compared two automotive camera modules:​

  1. Sheba’s Sharp-7 camera module, featuring its innovative actuation technology.​
  2. A comparable module using the same sensor and lens, but without the actuation technology.​

The testing process involved measuring the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) across a temperature range of -40°C to 150°C. This allowed us to accurately gauge the impact of temperature on image quality and focus stability, highlighting the effectiveness of Sheba’s actuation technology in maintaining superior performance.​
