Challenges
- The automotive camera manufacturer faced a challenge in evaluating lateral chromatic aberration for a camera with an extremely long working distance, which would have required a 30-meter-sized laboratory. The camera module integrates a non-RGB sensor.
- The customer required LCA measurements in a monochromatic environment to compare results with their optics supplier’s specifications.
Solutions
- The lateral chromatic aberration measurement algorithm in DXOMARK’s Analyzer standard IQ software is robust enough to reliably compute LCA, even in cases of significant image blur or strong defocus.
- Using the advanced capabilities of our Multi-spectral Lighting System (MLS), the most advanced IQ lighting solution in the market, we allowed monochromatic LCA measurement of a non-RGB sensor.
Results
- Delivered LCA measurements for 20 cameras as requested by the customer’s client.
- Successfully completed the measurements within a very limited timeframe, leveraging the expertise of our engineers in efficient testing service processes.
Context
Our customer, an automotive camera supplier, needed to provide its client, an automotive OEM, a measurement report for lateral chromatic aberration (LCA) on 20 cameras. These cameras, which are designed for long-range applications, had a working distance of more than 20 meters (far-field cameras). However, our customer did not have a test setup spanning more than 20 meters to conduct the necessary measurements.
The customer required the LCA measurements to be performed in a monochromatic environment to accurately compare the results with the specifications provided by their optics supplier. This required the use of a highly advanced lighting system, like our MLS, which was capable of delivering precise and consistent monochromatic illumination, ensuring the reliability and accuracy of the measurements.
